I have created this blog to help me gain strength from time to time, by reading about my pioneer Mormon ancestry. Ever since I joined the church back in 1995 I always complained that I did not have a pioneer heritage. Hearing talks and reading lectures about how people were drawing strength from their pioneer ancestry always made me think that I somehow could never be as strong in the faith as those with pioneer ancestry.
Also, looking back on my own life and the life of my closest Bushnell relatives made me candidly think that some of my ancestors were involved in tarring and feathering of early Mormon saints or maybe some of my relatives joined and then apostated!?
It was not until I started to take the advice found in (D&C 88:63) “Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you," that I began to take interest in family history work. I wanted to do what the Lord commands by doing temple work for my ancestors. I went to www.new.familysearch.org and was surprised what I found there. Much of my family history was already inserted into the church's database and it looked like much temple work needed to be done.
A few weeks had gone by, when that thought of, "I wish I had pioneer ancestors," crept into my mind. I had a thought that maybe I should start researching all of my relatives that were living during the time the church was organized going forward. By doing this I found out that I have quite an abundance of pioneer ancestry. I was shocked, amazed, and grateful for what I had found. I would like to share with you what I had found so far...
